About the Company
An established specialist contractor operating within the laboratory, education, healthcare, pharmaceutical and commercial sectors is looking to strengthen its commercial team with the appointment of an experienced Estimator - Fit Out & FF&E.
The business specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke laboratory furniture, fume cupboards, storage solutions and associated fit-out works, delivering projects across the UK and internationally.
With more than 70 years of industry experience, the company provides a complete service from initial consultation and design through to manufacture, installation and project completion. Its Manchester-based manufacturing operation produces bespoke furniture and specialist solutions to meet individual project requirements, with a strong focus on quality, functionality and cost efficiency.
The Role
As Estimator - Fit Out & FF&E, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive estimates for a range of laboratory fit-out, furniture and FF&E packages.
Working closely with the design, commercial, procurement and project delivery teams, you will interpret drawings and specifications, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, develop project costs and ensure tenders are submitted accurately and within required timescales.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator with a background in fit out, interiors, FF&E, joinery, furniture or specialist construction to join a highly established and technically focused business.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate estimates and tenders for fit-out, FF&E and specialist laboratory projects.
Review drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
Undertake detailed quantity take-offs and prepare project costings.
Price labour, materials, plant, subcontract packages and specialist works.
Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
Identify commercial risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities within tender packages.
Liaise with design and technical teams to ensure estimates reflect the proposed specification and design.
Work closely with procurement to ensure competitive and accurate supply-chain pricing.
Review project requirements and identify potential value engineering opportunities.
Prepare detailed tender submissions and supporting documentation.
Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within agreed deadlines.
Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits and client meetings where required.
Assist with tender adjudications and handovers to the commercial/project delivery teams.
Maintain accurate estimating records and pricing information.
Monitor market costs and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
Support the continuous improvement of estimating processes and commercial procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Proven experience working as an Estimator within fit out, interiors, FF&E, joinery, furniture or a related construction environment.
Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
Experience producing detailed estimates and undertaking quantity take-offs.
Experience pricing materials, labour, subcontractors and specialist packages.
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
Excellent Excel and general IT skills.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
A methodical and commercially focused approach.
Experience working with bespoke or technically detailed projects would be advantageous.
Relevant construction, estimating, quantity surveying or commercial qualification would be beneficial.
