Job Title: Boiler Operator / Steam Boiler Operator
Working time: Monday- Friday, 8am-4pm
Job Location: Central London ( SE1 & SE5 post code areas )
Mechanical maintenance Engineer or Operator with ideally steam systems experience.
Must have experience required for boiler operator role:
actual steam systems operating experience
formal boiler/operator experience and/ or training
evidence that they can work safely without supervision
understanding of PSSR/LOTO/permit systems
Preferable: water-treatment experience
The Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of steam boilers and associated equipment. The role includes monitoring boiler performance, maintaining correct steam pressure and water levels, carrying out routine inspections, identifying faults, and ensuring all equipment is operated in accordance with safety procedures and applicable regulations.
Operate and monitor steam boilers, burners, feedwater systems, pumps, valves, and associated equipment.
Start up and shut down boilers safely in accordance with approved operating procedures.
Monitor steam pressure, temperature, water level, fuel supply, combustion conditions, and other operating parameters.
Maintain the required steam pressure and supply to production or facility systems.
Conduct routine boiler-room inspections and record operating readings in logbooks or electronic systems.
Test boiler water and assist with water treatment to maintain required water-quality standards.
Carry out boiler blowdown at specified intervals and according to operating procedures.
Check safety devices, alarms, gauges, controls, valves, and interlocks for correct operation.
Identify abnormal conditions, leaks, unusual noises, excessive vibration, pressure fluctuations, and other equipment problems.
Report defects promptly and assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repairs.
Perform routine operator maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and housekeeping activities.
Respond appropriately to boiler alarms, trips, loss of water, pressure problems, and other emergencies.
Isolate equipment safely before maintenance work and follow lockout/tagout or equivalent isolation procedures.
Ensure the boiler house and surrounding work areas are kept clean, organised, and free from hazards.
Follow company health, safety, environmental, and permit-to-work procedures.
Support statutory inspections, servicing, testing, and certification of boilers and pressure systems.
Carry out other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
BOAS preferable
City and Guild Boiler operator training preferable
Technical or vocational qualification in mechanical, electrical, boiler operations, or a related discipline is preferred.
Previous experience operating industrial steam boilers is preferred.
Good understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
Ability to maintain accurate operational records.
Strong safety awareness

Good communication and teamworkPay is £28.12 per hour
