We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and committed SEMH Youth Worker to join a specialist SEN primary school in Stockport.
This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to work with children who require additional support to feel safe, build trusting relationships and engage positively with their education.
The Role
As an SEMH Youth Worker, you will play a key role in supporting pupils' social, emotional and mental health, helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need both inside and outside the classroom.
You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEN team to provide consistent, nurturing and structured support.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
Building positive, trusting relationships with children.
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and self-management.
Helping children understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.
Supporting pupils during periods of dysregulation or heightened emotions.
Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation techniques.
Encouraging positive communication, social skills and peer relationships.
Supporting pupils to engage with learning and the wider school environment.
Helping children develop confidence, resilience and independence.
Providing a calm, consistent and supportive presence throughout the school day.
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals.
Following individual support plans and contributing to pupils' development and progress.
About You
The successful candidate will be someone who is calm, compassionate, consistent and resilient.
You will understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and be able to look beyond the behaviour to understand the individual needs of the child.

Experience supporting children with SEMH, autism, challenging behaviour, trauma, social difficulties or additional educational needs would be highly desirable.
You will need to be confident setting appropriate boundaries while maintaining a warm, positive and nurturing approach.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
