Hays Education is working with a school in Sunderland to appoint a committed Pastoral Officer on a full-time, long-term temporary basis, with an opportunity for the role to become permanent for the right candidate.

Your responsibilities
Providing day-to-day pastoral support to pupils, offering a listening ear and practical guidance
Supporting pupils experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
Working closely with families, carers and external agencies to remove barriers to learning
Monitoring attendance, punctuality and behaviour, and supporting intervention strategies
Contributing to safeguarding processes and accurate record keeping (e.g. CPOMS)
Liaising with teaching staff, SENCO and senior leaders to ensure a joined-up approach to pupil welfareWhat you'll need
Previous experience in a pastoral, safeguarding, behaviour or student support role (school setting preferred)
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with pupils, staff and families
A calm, resilient and non-judgemental approach
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
An Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service is essential (or willingness to apply for a new one)
Relevant qualifications such as safeguarding, counselling, mental health first aid or youth work are desirableWhat you'll get in return
