Our client is seeking two Highway Design Engineers to join its Highways Engineering Services team in Winchester on a contract basis. The role will support the design and delivery of small to medium highway improvement and active travel schemes, with opportunities to assist major schemes when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Designing highway improvement and active travel schemes using AutoCAD and Civils 3D
Supporting the project management, procurement and implementation of capital programme schemes
Preparing drawings, technical documents and design information for highways and civil engineering projects
Contributing to the delivery of small to medium highways schemes from concept through to implementation
Working collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders
Providing engineering support to major highway schemes when required
Ensuring designs comply with relevant highway standards, regulations and best practice
Maintaining accurate project records and contributing to reports and technical assessments
Job Requirements:
Experience in highway design or highways and civil engineering
Good working knowledge of highway engineering principles and design processes
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office 365
Good working knowledge or practical experience using Civils 3D
Understanding of active travel schemes and highway improvement projects
Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage tasks effectively and work collaboratively within a design team
Full Category B driving licence and access to car use
Working Arrangements:
Based at the client's Winchester offices
Hybrid working, with three days from home or a remote office and two days in Winchester on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
37-hour working week
Contract position with a planned start date of 9 November 2026
Commitment to the specified onsite and hybrid working pattern is required
