Work Lyf Group are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering organisation for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Contract Maintenance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer with strong diesel engine experience to work on a fleet of locomotives across the UK, providing both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and operational performance.
The Role
Working predominantly as a lone engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, fault finding, and modifications across customer sites throughout the UK. You will play a vital role in ensuring fleet availability while delivering exceptional service standards.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.

Complete reliability inspections and preventative maintenance checks.

Identify potential fleet issues and recommend corrective actions.

Participate in a rolling day/night on-call rota.

Provide technical support and advice to customers and colleagues.

Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and on time.

Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and industry regulations.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and ongoing fleet upgrades.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

BTEC National Certificate, ONC in Engineering, or similar qualification.

Proven experience working with diesel engines and associated systems.

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach.

The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
-
Rail industry experience.

Personal Track Safety (PTS).

Emergency First Aid qualification.

Safety Critical competence experience.
