Part-Time Bookkeeper – School hours
Love tidy books, balanced accounts and making every penny add up? Join a friendly, growing Hertford business in a flexible, office-based role that fits brilliantly around school hours (ideally 20-25 hours, 5 days per week).
We need a confident, hands-on bookkeeper who can hit the ground running and keep our day-to-day finances in brilliant shape. You’ll own the detail, keep deadlines moving and make sure the numbers are always clear, accurate and ready to go. If Xero and Excel are your happy place—and you want a role with flexibility now and room to grow—this could be the perfect fit.
What you’ll be doing:
- Prepare management accounts, or maintain the books through to management-account stage
- Keep financial records and ledgers accurate and up to date
- Process sales and purchase invoices and manage accounts payable and receivable
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements
- Support month-end and year-end accounts preparation
- Maintain petty cash records and liaise with external accountants and HMRC when required
- Help ensure compliance with UK accounting and tax regulations
You’ll be a great match if you bring:
- Proven bookkeeping experience, ideally in a similar hands-on role
- Good knowledge of UK bookkeeping and VAT requirements
- Experience with Xero and strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent numerical ability, accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisation and time management, with the confidence to work independently
- A trustworthy, discreet and clear approach to communication
Ideally you will have:
- A relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification
Why you’ll love it here:
- Genuinely school-hours-friendly flexibility
- A warm, supportive team that values what you do
- Real ownership and the freedom to make the role your own
- Plenty of scope to increase your hours and grow into a full-time position
