Waste Operations Officer
Location: Various sites across Leicestershire (RHWS, WTS & County Hall)
Pay: Competitive (negotiable for candidates with relevant experience and a valid COTC)
Hours: 37 hours per week (occasional weekend work required)
Contract: 6 months initially, with potential to extend
We are seeking an experienced Waste Operations Officer to oversee the day-to-day management of operational staff across Leicestershire's Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTS). This is a hands-on, field-based management role requiring regular travel between sites.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and support operational site teams, including HR processes, performance management, and staff development.

Deliver training, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.

Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures, environmental permits, and Waste Duty of Care legislation.

Monitor waste movement records, site documentation, and quality management processes.

Manage stock levels of PPE, equipment, fuel, and site consumables.

Handle customer queries and complaints professionally.

Occasionally drive a Council 3.5-tonne vehicle.
Requirements

Experience managing operational teams within waste management or a similar environment.

Strong communication, IT, and organisational skills.

Experience delivering training and managing compliance.

Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and business-use insurance.

A valid Level 4 Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) is desirable and may attract a higher rate of pay.
