We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic, and customer-focused Driver / General Assistant to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring that equipment is delivered safely, accurately, and on time while supporting the day-to-day operations of our depot and warehouse.
Role Overview
As a Driver / General Assistant, you will be responsible for the delivery and collection of surveying and construction equipment to and from customer sites throughout the region.
When not carrying out deliveries, you will support the daily operations of the depot by preparing equipment, picking and packing orders, assisting with stock management, and ensuring the warehouse remains safe, organised, and efficient.
The successful candidate will be proactive, customer-focused, and safety-conscious, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Safely deliver and collect equipment to and from customer sites.
Conduct daily vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
Ensure all deliveries and collections are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
Load and unload vehicles safely, ensuring all equipment is secured appropriately for transportation.
Obtain customer signatures and complete all relevant delivery and collection documentation.
Assist with warehouse and depot operations, including:

Picking, packing, and dispatching customer orders.

Preparing hire equipment for issue.

Checking and processing returned equipment.

Assisting with stock control and inventory checks.
Maintain high standards of health and safety, housekeeping, and security.
Build positive relationships with customers and represent the company professionally at all times.
Work closely with the Hire Co-ordinator and Operations Manager to ensure excellent customer service.
Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
Person Specification
Essential
Full UK Driving Licence.
Good, working knowledge of safe driving practices and road regulations.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Physically fit and capable of safely loading and unloading equipment.
Basic IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Willingness to learn new systems, products, and processes.
Valid proof of the right to work in the UK.
Desirable
Previous experience in a delivery driver role.
Experience working within a warehouse or depot environment.
Experience within the plant hire, tool hire, construction, utilities, or geospatial sectors.
Forklift Truck Licence (or willingness to undertake training).
