Manufacturing Operator (Temporary)

Main Purpose
To process parts using manual techniques and/or jigs and tools to prescribed methods, ensuring required safety, quality, and cycle time targets are consistently met.
Position in the Organisation
The postholder will report to the Team Leader and work as part of an operational team of approximately 20 operators.
Scope of the Job - Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- Production Operations (90%)
Carry out manufacturing processes to prescribed methods using jigs and tools as defined by process design.
Inspect parts and make pass/fail quality decisions using prescribed standards and equipment.
Undertake repair or rectification tasks using approved methods where required.
Accurately record production and quality data on worksheets and/or computer systems.
Be trained and operate on more than one process to provide flexibility and maintain production volumes.
- Equipment Maintenance (5%)
Carry out basic maintenance of equipment, including routine inspection and servicing.
Replenish consumables and safely manage waste generated by the process.
- Safety, 5S and Continuous Improvement (5%)
Maintain high standards of safety and 5S within the immediate and wider work area.
Contribute to and support Continuous Improvement (CI) activities and initiatives.
Direction
Work to clearly defined processes and quality standards.
Make pass/fail decisions in line with approved criteria.
Recommend process improvements to the Team Leader where appropriate.
Daily work allocation and workload is determined by the Team Leader and production design.
Output is often checked by downstream processes.
Communications and Relationships
Regular day‑to‑day communication with colleagues and the Team Leader.
May liaise with support departments regarding parts availability, quality concerns, or equipment issues.
Working Environment
Primarily clean, non‑hazardous manufacturing conditions.
Some tasks may require extended use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Role may involve long periods of standing, frequent dexterous movements, and occasional handling of chemicals with appropriate PPE.

Experience and Education
Previous experience in a similar manufacturing or production role is desirable but not essential.
Basic IT literacy is desirable.
Numerate and literate (approximate GCSE grades C-E or equivalent).
The successful candidate is expected to be fully effective within three months.
