Street & Grounds Operative (Driver)
Location: Coventry
Salary: £15.06ph
Contract: 07.00 - 16.00, Monday - Friday. 6 weeks initially
Induction date: 15.04.2026
About the Role
We’re looking for a reliable and hard-working Street & Grounds Operative, who has a driving licence, to help keep the streets, parks, and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming.
This is a varied, hands-on role combining driving duties with street cleaning and grounds maintenance work.

What You’ll Be Doing

Driving a range of vehicles (up to 7.5 tonnes) including mechanical sweepers and grass-cutting equipment

Carrying out street cleaning tasks, such as:

Emptying litter and dog waste bins

Removing graffiti, fly-tipping, and spillages
-
Safely handling hazardous items (e.g. sharps)

Clearing debris and maintaining pavements

Supporting grounds maintenance work, including:

Grass cutting, strimming, and edging
-
Hedge trimming and shrub care
-
Basic horticultural and tree maintenance tasks
-
Assisting with sports pitch marking and equipment setup

Carrying out winter duties, including gritting and snow clearance

Using handheld devices to record work and complete reports

Ensuring all work is carried out safely, including proper road signage and traffic management (Chapter 8 compliance)

Supporting other council services when needed
What they are Looking For
Essential:
-
Full UK Category B (manual) driving licence

Experience in grounds maintenance or similar outdoor work
-
Ability to use hand and power tools
-
Good level of physical fitness (this role involves lifting, bending, and working outdoors)

Basic literacy skills for completing records

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Good communication skills when dealing with the public

Flexible and willing to learn new skills
