Linux Administrator (Contract)

Working model: Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Rate: £400 per day (Inside IR35)

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Linux Administrator to support and optimise enterprise-grade Linux infrastructure within a large-scale Life Sciences project environment. This contract role provides hands-on exposure to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, high-end GPU workstations, and high-performance computing platforms, working on mission-critical systems and advanced technologies.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, contribute to performance testing and automation, and play a key role in ensuring system stability, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support for high-end GPU workstations in an enterprise environment
Install, configure, and maintain enterprise software solutions on Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms
Troubleshoot complex Linux system issues using structured diagnostic approaches
Support large-scale, project-based initiatives through close collaboration with technical teams
Conduct performance testing on HPC platforms using custom scripts and tools
Analyse system performance and utilisation data to produce actionable insights
Prepare detailed technical reports covering system performance, resource usage, and key metrics
Present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Lead or support technical meetings to ensure project alignment and delivery
Ensure systems meet security, compatibility, and operational standards
Essential Skills and Experience
Proven hands-on experience as a Linux Administrator or Systems Engineer
Strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
Proficiency in shell scripting and automation
Experience supporting high-end GPU workstation environments
Strong Linux troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
Experience working with HPC platforms, including performance testing
Ability to analyse system data and translate it into meaningful insights
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams
Experience supporting enterprise-scale, project-based environments
Desirable
Experience installing and configuring enterprise software on Linux systems
Exposure to large cross-departmental or transformation programmes
Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic, fast-paced environments
