Long Term Futures is supporting an early years setting in Walthamstow (E17) to recruit a reliable and organised Kitchen Assistant to support the nursery kitchen during a short period of staff absence. While Long Term Futures typically focuses on long-term placements, this is a rare one-off opportunity to support a well-run nursery environment where high standards of care, hygiene and teamwork are essential
This role is ideal for someone with previous kitchen or catering experience who is comfortable working in a busy early years setting and enjoys contributing to a team that provides nutritious meals for young children.
About the Role
You will work alongside the nursery cook and staff team to support the daily preparation and service of meals and snacks for children attending the setting. Maintaining a safe, clean and organised kitchen environment will be an important part of the role.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with basic food preparation, including chopping fruit and vegetables
- Supporting the preparation of simple meals and snacks for nursery children
- Helping with plating, portioning and serving food where required
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene in the kitchen
- Washing dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment
- Keeping preparation areas clean, organised and compliant with food safety regulations
- Supporting the kitchen team during busy periods of the afternoon service
This role requires someone who can work efficiently, follow clear food preparation instructions and maintain a calm and organised approach during busy times.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Previous experience working in a kitchen, catering or food preparation role
- Understanding of basic food hygiene and kitchen safety practices
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently when needed
- Comfortable working in a nursery or childcare environment
- A Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable but not essential
