Hygiene Operative Role Overview
We are looking for a proactive Hygiene Operative who is responsible for maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all warehouse and production areas, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and company policies. The role supports the Clean-As-You-Go (CAYG) policy by carrying out scheduled cleaning activities that go beyond daily operator responsibilities, ensuring the facility remains safe, hygienic, and compliant with food safety and hygiene standards.
Working Hours
40 hours per week.
Monday – Friday
Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required to support deep cleaning activities, maintenance shutdowns or audit preparation.
Hygiene Operative Key Responsibilities
· Perform routine cleaning tasks beyond daily operator duties, ensuring compliance with hygiene standards.
· Support site readiness for internal and external audits, by maintaining high housekeeping standards and assisting with hygiene verification.
· Empty and replace rubbish bins daily.
· Across - departmental support - Provide hygiene support across production, Warehouse, yard areas as required to maintain site standards.
· Carry out quarterly deep cleaning in accordance with the Cleaning Schedule.
· Support waste removal from warehouse and staff facilities.
· Manage laundering of PPE to maintain cleanliness and availability.
· Replenish hairnets, beard snoods, hand sanitiser, and hand soap in dispensers daily.
- Cleaning Equipment Control
· Inspect, maintain, and replace cleaning tools at designated stations.
· Ensure all equipment is returned to shadow boards, cleaned, and ready for use.
· Monitor compliance with colour-coding and zone-specific equipment usage.
· Assist the technical team with verification activities - swabbing, glass and brittle plastic checks, pest control observations.
- Documentation & Verification
· Complete the daily Cleaning Schedule Checklist accurately.
· Record activities on the Cleaning Inspection Sign-Off Sheet.
· Support verification activities such as visual inspections and hygiene swabbing checks.
· Follow documented cleaning methods (e.g., dry wiping, hand brushing, sweeping, waste collection).
· Ensure cleaning practices prevent contamination and meet food safety standards.
· Use chemicals safely in line with COSHH and MSDS requirements.
· Adhere to site rules regarding restricted use of water and wet cleaning.
- Training & Continuous Improvement
· Participate in mandatory CAYG and hygiene training sessions.
· Support colleagues in understanding and applying correct cleaning practices.
· Report damaged or missing tools, non-compliance issues, and suggest improvements to supervisors.
- Health & Safety Responsibilities
· Ensure compliance with LT Foods UK’s health & safety, food safety, and quality assurance standards.
· Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly to the appropriate Manager or Shift Supervisor.
· Support the implementation of safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
· Participate in health and safety briefings and training sessions as required.
Requirements for the Hygiene Operative
· Ability to perform manual cleaning tasks.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift cleaning equipment or waste materials.
· Comfortable working in Warehouse and Production environment.
· Support dry-cleaning methodology required on site in low -moisture food environment.
· Ability to work in an ambient warehouse environment. While there are no cold storage areas, the role may involve exposure to natural temperature fluctuations due to external environmental conditions.
· The role may occasionally involve cleaning or inspection activities at elevated areas such as the mezzanine floor or designated platforms, following site health and safety procedures and safe access guidelines.
· Strong understanding of hygiene, cleanliness, and workplace safety standards.
· Ability to follow documented cleaning methods and adhere to scheduled tasks.
· Awareness of cross-contamination risks and core food safety principles.
· High attention to detail with accountability for accurate record-keeping.
· Previous experience in hygiene or cleaning roles, ideally within food manufacturing or warehousing environments.
· Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe chemical handling practices.
· Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audits and housekeeping standards.
