Facilities & Site Maintenance Operative
Location: Leyland Area
Contract: Full Time, Temporary (8-12 weeks)
Start Date: ASAP
Shifts: 06:00-14:30 or 12:30-21:00 (may vary depending on events)
DBS Required: Must hold an Enhanced DBS issued within the last 3 months or be registered on the Update Service.
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a respected school in the Leyland area for an experienced and reliable Facilities & Site Maintenance Operative. This is a key role ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the school's buildings and grounds.
The successful candidate will support day‑to‑day site operations, maintenance, health & safety, and general caretaking duties across the school's sites.
Key Responsibilities
Building & Facilities Maintenance
Carry out maintenance of the internal and external fabric of the buildings.
Maintain heat, light, power, and water systems.
Inspect and maintain fixed and portable electrical equipment.
Ensure high standards of internal and external cleaning and appearance.
Complete painting, decorating, plumbing, and general DIY/repair tasks.
Grounds Maintenance
Maintain soft and hard landscaping, including routine grounds work.
Undertake winter gritting and ensure safe access across footpaths and walkways.
Support with tree management and surveys.
Uphold the general external appearance of the campus.
Operational Support
Open and secure buildings across both sites.
Assist with first aid provision and support infection control procedures.
Challenge any inappropriate or negative learner behaviour when required.
Manage deliveries (registers, post, parcels) between campuses.
Assist with furniture moves and room setups for exams, performances, and events.
Manage and adjust computerised building management systems.
Support the coordination of emergency situations and responses.
Compliance & Contractor Management
Oversee contractors working on site to maintain high health & safety standards.
Manage statutory compliance related to premises, services, and external grounds.
Support waste and recycling processes, including environmental/green initiatives.
Person Requirements
Previous experience in premises, facilities, maintenance, or caretaking roles.
Strong understanding of health & safety, site security, and contractor management.
Practical skills in general repairs, basic plumbing, decorating, and grounds work.
Ability to work shifts and adapt to operational needs.
Good communication skills and confidence to challenge behaviour when necessary.
Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
