Accounts Assistant
Location: Cardiff (Hybrid – 3 days in the office, 2 from home)
Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 (DOE)
Hours: 8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (40-hour week)
Contract: Permanent
The Company
Our client is a fast-growing Financial Services business based in Cardiff, seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join its friendly and collaborative team. This is a newly created opportunity within a close-knit finance function, located in excellent offices on the outskirts of the city.
You’ll be joining a supportive and knowledgeable team that encourages professional development and continuous learning. This hands-on and varied role would suit someone with solid accounts experience and a genuine interest in the Financial Services sector. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, you’ll play an important part in supporting the day-to-day operations of the finance department.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Processing daily financial transactions and performing regular bank reconciliations
Supporting accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring appropriate approvals and controls
Assisting with monthly management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
Using accounting systems and spreadsheets to input, reconcile and analyse financial data
Supporting regulatory reporting and preparing data for FCA submissions
Assisting with annual external audits, providing documentation and explanations as required
Identifying and escalating discrepancies, errors or potential compliance issues
Working closely with the Commissions team to ensure accurate processing, reconciliation and issue resolution
Liaising with Compliance, Risk and Operations teams to support regulatory requirements
Contributing to ad-hoc financial and strategic analysis
About You
You’ll be a proactive, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working with numbers and thrives in a fast-paced, growing business.
Key skills and experience:
Previous experience in an accounts or finance support role, with confidence handling detailed financial data
Strong working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Excel (Xero experience advantageous)
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage confidential information responsibly
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple deadlines
Professional, methodical and team-oriented approach
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, including interaction with senior stakeholders
Currently studying towards, or having completed, an accounting qualification (e.g. AAT)
Knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements or Financial Services experience is desirable but not essential
Positive, proactive attitude and strong work ethic
