Structural Engineer - Contract (Inside IR35)

This role combines responsibilities across Assistant, Senior, and Lead Structural Engineering levels.
Overview
An opportunity is available for Structural Engineers at varying experience levels to support and deliver building structures projects. The role involves contributing to high-quality engineering design, governance, and performance across a diverse project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities (All Levels)
Produce engineering deliverables including calculations, reports, drawings, and documentation.
Apply structural engineering principles and relevant standards, including Eurocodes and Building Regulations.
Use design and analysis software such as 3D CAD tools, Tekla Structural Designer, and Tekla Tedds.
Support compliance with technical governance, safety legislation (including CDM 2015), and quality processes.
Communicate effectively within project teams and with stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities for Mid-Level / Senior Engineers
Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
Manage programme and quality performance across assigned schemes.
Engage professionally with clients and stakeholders.
Lead work packages or small project teams, ensuring technical accuracy.
Additional Responsibilities for Lead Engineers
Lead teams delivering multiple or complex structural projects.
Provide high-level technical leadership, ensuring compliance with governance and quality frameworks.
Coordinate with senior stakeholders to guide project strategy and risk management.
Promote technical excellence and best practice across engineering functions.
Qualifications & Experience
Assistant-Level Requirements
Typically 4+ years of building structures design experience.
Ability to apply engineering theory under supervision.
Working knowledge of design software and relevant codes.
Progression toward Incorporated or Chartered status.
Senior-Level Requirements
Typically 10+ years of building structures experience.
Ability to lead small teams and manage technical outputs.
Extensive experience with 3D modelling and Tekla software.
Incorporated or Chartered, or actively working towards it.
Lead-Level Requirements
Extensive experience including leadership of multi-disciplinary projects.
Chartered status with a relevant engineering institution.
Experience managing design governance and project performance.
Strong stakeholder engagement and decision-making capabilities
