Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an experienced and dedicated Male Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and well-resourced school in South Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate professional to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people with complex needs.
You will be working within a specialist SEN environment supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. A male Learning Support Assistant is specifically sought to meet the pastoral and safeguarding needs of the student.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs
Implement and follow individual Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans and personalised support strategies
Deploy proactive and de-escalation-based behaviour management techniques to manage and reduce challenging behaviour
Act as a positive, stable, and consistent male role model for students
Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and the wider pastoral team
Build trusting, professional relationships with pupils in order to promote engagement and wellbeing
Support pupils with social communication and emotional regulation
Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, incidents, and interventions
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Assist with personal care and physical support where required and appropriate
Essential Requirements:
Previous experience working with young people with Autism (ASD/ASC)
Experience supporting pupils with ADHD in an educational or care setting
Demonstrable understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed approaches
Strong, proven behaviour management skills with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively
Experience managing challenging or complex behaviours with patience and professionalism
Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building positive rapport with students
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable criteria:
Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE, or equivalent
Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent positive handling / physical intervention training
Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication frameworks
Experience within a specialist SEN school, SEMH provision, or PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)
First Aid qualification
