Together with our client we are seeking a General Maintenance Assistant to join a well-established Works Department supporting a large, multi-building estate in a central city location. The department includes electricians, plumbers, builders, decorators, and carpenters, working together to maintain and support a diverse range of buildings of varying ages.
Purpose of the Role
The General Maintenance Assistant will provide both reactive and planned maintenance support across the estate. The role is varied and hands-on, contributing to the smooth operation, safety, and upkeep of buildings and facilities.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs as directed

Support compliance duties, including setting up rooms for events, teaching, and functions

Clean and maintain shower heads

Undertake meter readings and ladder inspections

Move furniture and furnishings as required

Assist with routine maintenance of plant and equipment to meet statutory and organisational requirements

Support building condition surveys
-
Identify, report, and record faults verbally and in writing

Provide general assistance to the Works team as required
Additional attendance may be required on a rota basis to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours. Overtime may be necessary to ensure tasks are completed.

Working Environment
Maintenance work takes place across a large estate with buildings of varying ages. The role involves accessing stairs, basements, roof spaces, and other confined or awkward areas.

Knowledge & Experience
Experience working in a building maintenance or facilities environment
Basic IT skills, including email use, record keeping, and smartphone technology

Employment Details
Salary: £29,960 per annum
Hours: 39 hours per week
Monday–Thursday: 08:00–17:00
Friday: 08:00–16:00
Holiday: 25 days plus 8 public holidays
Probation: Six months
