Logistics Assistant
Location: Malton
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000
An established and growing engineering-focused organisation is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Logistics Assistant to support its Production function. Reporting to the Procurement & Logistics Manager, you will play a key role in the effective control of stock, goods movements, and logistical processes, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the business.
This role would suit either someone with previous logistics experience, or a candidate with a background in a warehouse or stores environment who is looking to step into a more logistics-focused role. For the right person with a positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn, full training will be provided.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a structured environment, can manage multiple tasks, and takes pride in accuracy and organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Procurement & Logistics Manager in the day-to-day running of the department
Process goods inwards and outwards, ensuring correct quality control procedures are followed
Carry out initial inspection of goods received (purchased, rented, or returned from clients)
Arrange and coordinate shipping and collection of goods
Kit parts from stock for production requirements
Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Procurement & Logistics Manager and/or Production Manager
Undertake regular and ad-hoc stock checks
Raise and issue purchase orders as required
Liaise and negotiate with suppliers for goods and services when required
Support Production personnel as needed
Maintain good housekeeping standards across all stores areas
Work in line with company procedures and best practice
Follow ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems at all times
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in logistics, warehousing, stores, or a production environment is preferred
Candidates without direct logistics experience will be considered if they have relevant warehouse or stores experience and a strong willingness to learn
Good verbal and written communication skills
Accurate, reliable, and well organised with strong attention to detail
Able to work independently and take responsibility for tasks
Basic IT skills including MS Windows, Word and Excel; training on systems provided
Experience with ERP or stock control systems advantageous but not essential
Forklift licence desirable; training can be provided
Knowledge of ESD and IPC techniques advantageous; training can be provided
Full UK driving licence desirable but not essential
