As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Civil Engineer Level 6 programme, which will take approximately 69 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered college with 1-2-1 advice, e-learning materials and a team of experts providing technical knowledge throughout your apprenticeship journey.

Amey has worked in partnership with Network Rail since 2009 to deliver the Civils Examinations and Assessment Framework Agreements. We are responsible for the examination and assessment of railway structures across the UK, delivering several workstreams including structures examinations, structures assessments, operational property inspections and earthworks examinations.
By gathering intelligence on the condition and development of these assets, we support decision-making for future interventions and ensure their continued safety - preserving important national infrastructure for today and the future.
We also operate a 24/7, 365-day on-call service to respond promptly to incidents and ensure trains and passengers keep moving.
What you will do:
You will support the assessment of rail structures, including Underline bridges, overline bridges, footbridges, under crofts, canopies, train and depot sheds, side bridges, tunnels (supporting external traffic loads), and other structures.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering assigned assessment tasks on time and within budget.
Providing support to the project team.
Ensuring compliance with Company, Network Rail, Highway and other relevant standards.
Maintaining the highest safety standards.
Preparing technical assessment/design remits, calculations, reports and drawings that provide technically sound engineering solutions compliant with relevant standards and client requirements.
Preparing for and undertaking site work, including inspections, examinations and assessments of assets.
Working in line with the Amey Integrated Management System, including all Health & Safety, Environmental and HSEQ requirements.
Maintaining knowledge of industry best practice and applying engineering judgement where appropriate.
Assisting and mentoring less experienced or junior staff, including technical drawing, report preparation and feedback.
Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations.
Supporting the project team with cost estimates and the successful delivery of commissions to programme, budget and client requirements. What you will bring:
Three A-Levels at Grades A*-C, including Mathematics and a Physical Science.
Full UK driving licence.
Ability to pass a PTS Medical.
Strong technical skills and ability to work effectively within a technical team.
Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CAD.
Familiarity with analysis software (e.g., ArchieM, SuperStress, Tedds, Lusas, MasterSeries, Leap Bridge, Ring).
Good communication skills and ability to participate in internal and external discussions with clients and stakeholders. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for consideration, due to the nature of the work associated with this account.
