Family Court Adviser - Cafcass Newcastle (Agency FCA Role)

Cafcass is seeking an experienced Family Court Adviser (FCA) for temporary cover within the Newcastle office (NTX(phone number removed)). This is a full‑time role working 37 hours per week, offering £32 per hour.
As an FCA, you will provide advanced social work support to children, families and the Family Court, delivering high‑quality safeguarding analysis, assessments and recommendations. You will be responsible for ensuring that children's voices remain central in proceedings, while supporting judicial case management and contributing to safe, timely outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high‑quality safeguarding and child protection assessments for the Court.
Analyse complex family circumstances and identify serious welfare concerns.
Provide clear and evidence‑based recommendations focused on the child's best interests.
Work directly with children and families to achieve safe and positive outcomes.
Manage a demanding caseload and meet strict Court deadlines.
Produce high‑quality written reports, including court‑ordered and tribunal documents.
Work collaboratively with the judiciary, solicitors, Local Authorities and partner agencies.
Advocate for children at every stage, ensuring their voices are clearly represented.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, guidance and best practice.
Essential Requirements
SWE Registered Social Worker with Right to Work in the UK (no sponsorship).
Enhanced DBS issued within the last 12 months via your agency.
Minimum 3 years' post‑qualifying experience in children's social work.
Strong skills in assessment, analysis, negotiation and safeguarding.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and handle high‑conflict situations.
Excellent written communication skills and confidence in producing court‑standard reports.
About the Role
This assignment sits within Cafcass's Work to First Hearing Team, providing early safeguarding analysis and supporting the Court from the point of application. You'll be accountable to the Service Manager and work closely with judiciary, court staff, legal representatives and partner agencies.
This role requires resilience, strong organisational ability and a commitment to high‑quality casework.
Pay Rate: £32 per hour / Full‑time / Temporary cover
