Our client delivers Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing solutions across commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a proactive Assistant Buyer to support our procurement function. The successful candidate will assist in sourcing materials, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of goods to support our mechanical and electrical projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within construction procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with sourcing and purchasing materials, plant, and services
- Raise and process purchase orders in line with company procedures
- Liaise with suppliers to confirm pricing, availability, and lead times
- Track deliveries and resolve any discrepancies or delays
- Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier databases
- Support price comparisons and cost analysis to ensure best value
- Assist with negotiating terms and discounts where appropriate
- Work closely with site teams to understand material requirements
- Monitor stock levels and flag potential shortages
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in a buying or procurement role
- Experience within MEP, construction, or building services
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- High level of attention to detail
Desirable:
- Knowledge of procurement systems
- Understanding of supplier contracts and terms
