Principal Purpose of the Role
As part of a small production team, the Factory Operative will be responsible for producing pet bedding products in line with instructions from the Production Supervisor or Senior Operative. The role requires working efficiently, safely, and to agreed productivity targets while maintaining high standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities
Take responsibility for personal health and safety and that of others within Norfolk Industries, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Independence Matters policies
Work to agreed productivity targets based on previous experience and skill level
Production Duties Include:
Preparing paper for shredding, including cutting reels using an industrial band saw
Shredding paper or cleaning cloth using various shredding machines
Handling cotton materials as part of the production process
Filling and sealing bags
Packing sealed bags into polythene bags and/or cartons as required
Producing larger products such as 5kg or 10kg bales and wrapping orders for dispatch
Palletising finished products and making or picking orders ready for dispatch
Moving pallets of finished goods or raw materials using pallet trucks or forklift trucks (where trained and authorised)
Ensure all machinery and equipment are checked before use, operated safely, and kept clean and tidy
Use materials, tools, and PPE in line with production guidance and supplier instructions
Provide basic instruction and support to individuals on work experience placements when required
Report any quality control or health and safety concerns promptly to the Production Supervisor
Notify the Production Supervisor of any raw material requirements
Manage time effectively and work efficiently to maximise productivity
Work cooperatively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and work placement participants
Participate in training and development activities as required to enhance skills relevant to the role
Take an active role in general quality control, raising issues immediately with the Production Supervisor
Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with Independence Matters’ Equal Opportunities policies and procedures

Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 16:30
Friday - 08:00 - 13:00

The post is subject to an appropriate level of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. (Basic)
You must have experience operating a band saw
You must hold an in-date FLT licence
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria
Experience using an industrial band saw, or the willingness and confidence to use one following external training
Basic numeracy skills, including the ability to add and subtract
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to self-manage and remain motivated when working independently
Good manual dexterity for packing and handling goods
Strong attention to detail
Ability to follow basic product quality control requirements
Willingness and ability to learn basic machinery maintenance across a range of machines
Desirable Criteria
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
First Aid qualification
Experience within a packaging or manufacturing environment
Production line experience
Experience working with people with disabilities
