The Role
As a Payroll Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the payroll function for a large workforce. You will be responsible for processing payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the finance team, helping to ensure that all employees are paid correctly and on time.
Key Responsibilities:

Process and administer the company payroll, ensuring timely and accurate payment to employees.

Input and maintain employee details, including pay rates, tax codes, and other relevant data.

Calculate and process employee deductions (tax, National Insurance, pensions, etc.).

Prepare and maintain payroll reports for internal stakeholders.

Assist with the reconciliation of payroll-related accounts and records.

Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll legislation, tax regulations, and company policies.

Respond to payroll-related queries from employees, providing excellent customer service and resolving any issues.

Maintain and update records for sickness, holiday, and overtime.

Assist in the year-end payroll processes, including P60s and P11Ds.

Support with HMRC submissions, including RTI filings.

Provide general payroll administration support as required.
Key Skills and Experience Required:

Previous experience in payroll processing, ideally within an engineering or similar industry.

Strong knowledge of payroll systems and legislation (e.g., tax codes, pensions, National Insurance, RTI).

Experience with payroll software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or similar).

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle payroll queries effectively.

Knowledge of pensions administration (auto-enrolment) would be an advantage.

Proactive and self-motivated with a positive attitude.

Ability to work as part of a team and liaise with internal departments.
