Passenger Assistant – SEN & Learning Difficulties
Salary: £17.03/h PAYE
Hours: Term-time / split shifts (morning & afternoon) 20 hours per week
Contract: temporary ongoing
About the Role
We are seeking caring, reliable Passenger Assistants to support children and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or learning difficulties during their journeys to and from schools, colleges, and day services.
You will play a vital role in ensuring passengers travel safely, comfortably, and with dignity. This is a rewarding position for someone who enjoys working with people and making a positive difference in their daily lives.
Key Responsibilities

Safely escort passengers on client-provided transport

Support passengers with boarding, seating, and exiting vehicles

Provide reassurance, encouragement, and appropriate supervision

Use specialist equipment (e.g. seat belts, harnesses, wheelchair restraints) following training

Communicate effectively with drivers, parents/carers, and service staff

Follow individual care and transport plans

Report concerns, incidents, or changes in behaviour in line with council procedures
About You

Patient, compassionate, and dependable

Experience working with SEN children or adults with learning difficulties is desirable (training provided)

Able to remain calm and responsive in challenging situations

Good communication and teamwork skills

Physically able to assist passengers where required
