Job Overview :
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join the care team supporting, a lovely 5-year-old boy with complex needs following a brain injury in 2021.
The successful candidate will provide essential support at home, assisting with personal care, communication, mobility, and play, while ensuring his comfort, safety, and wellbeing.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life, work closely with a welcoming family, and develop valuable skills in caring for children with learning disabilities and complex needs. The position is paid and ideal for individuals committed to delivering high-quality care with empathy, patience, and professionalism.
Responsibilities:
Personal care:
Provide hands-on care, including bathing, grooming, and changing, while encouraging independence wherever possible.
Moving and handling:
Safely support mobility, including transfers and positioning, in line with best practice and any care or risk assessments.
Nutritional care:
Support with eating and drinking, including
monitoring
food and fluid intake, assisting with feeding when necessary, and promoting healthy nutrition.
Communication:
Encourage and support communication skills, using appropriate strategies and tools to aid understanding.
Engagement and play:
Support developmental play, learning, and social interaction, tailored to the client’s abilities and interests.
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children with learning disabilities or complex needs.
Ability to manage and support challenging behaviour in a calm, patient, and positive way.
Experience supporting individuals with speech and communication difficulties.
Flexibility, reliability, and a team-oriented approach.
Core Support Hours:
Monday to Friday: 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Friday to Sunday: 8:00 pm – 9:00 am (overnight support)
Salary:
£15-£18ph
(
PAYE or Umbrella welcome)
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 6 months experience
working with children with learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour
Basic Life Support and Moving & Handling (practical) certification
Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or in hand)
Right to work in the UK (UK citizen or Indefinite Leave to Remain)
