Job Description Summary
Managing metadata is essential for understanding our data—what it is, what it
means, and how it got there. This understanding allows us to apply and
automate data governance policies and procedures effectively. By helping to
describe our data in a central data catalogue, you’ll make it more
discoverable for data analysts and scientists, thereby reducing the time and
cost of finding fit-for-purpose data assets.
Job Description
JOB TITLE: Assistant Data Discovery and Cataloguing Manager
LOCATION(S): Bristol Birmingham Edinburgh
HOURS: Full Time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at
least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our Hub locations

analytics. The Chief Data & Analytics Office (CDAO) is critical in embedding
data and analytics capabilities across the Group to support with delivering
today, whilst preparing us for the advances in the future. The CIB Business
Unit Data Office (BUDO), serves as a Centre of Excellence and delivery partner
for both CIB and LBCM, bringing a diverse mix of colleagues, skills,
frameworks, and best practices in managing our data effectively and generating
subsequent insight and value.
Key responsibilities
You’ll play a key role in supporting Metadata Management initiatives that
drive our group-wide Data & Analytics Strategy through the Core data
identification and Data Foundations Programme. Your main responsibilities will
include documenting metadata in the Group’s metadata repository and assisting
colleagues in consistently documenting and managing metadata according to
group standards, ensuring compliance with the Group Data Policy across various
business areas and change programmes.
- Describe data in a central data catalogue to enhance discoverability and usability.
- Lead documentation of Business and technical data dictionaries and lineage identified Critical Data Element’s (CDEs) and ensure they are appropriately governed.
- You’ll help promote the Group Metadata repository, enabling Data Owners, Data Consumers, and other stakeholders to derive further value from data and automate the monitoring of progress.
- Support business areas in metadata documentation and Data cataloguing practices, focusing on Metadata Management, Data Quality, and Data Governance activities.
- Assist in designing and developing metadata reporting solutions.
- Support in developing, embedding, and monitoring the adoption of the metadata management framework.
- Assist in developing and embedding metadata management and governance processes.
- Champion the use of Group Data management tools.
- Works independently to collate and analyse data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats.
- Provide oversight to ensure effective data risk management activities across the organisation.

What you’ll need
- Ability to understand organisational challenges and opportunities through data cataloguing and maintaining data lineage.
- Experience of data-centric change programs is preferred.
- Knowledge of databases and querying SQL is preferred.
- Knowledge of Data Management principles and practices (e.g., Metadata Management, Data Quality, Data GovernancePrivacy)
- Previous direct experience with data and tooling from either a data management or analytics perspective is a benefit.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and PowerPoint is required.
