MAIN PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for all aspects of security, safety and fire control of the Company’s premises, buildings, factory plant and assets.
The incumbent will drive continuous improvement in the Health and Safety department within the Newtown manufacturing facility. By ensuring operations legal compliance and implementation of audits.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma in Safety/Health Management
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
- SAMTRAC/NEBOSH IGC Certification
- HIRE & Legal Liability Certification
- Incident investigation experience
- ISO 45001/14001 Management System experience
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Maintain, implement, and revise company policies and operational procedures.
- Ensure that emergency response plans are aligned with business risks; employees are trained and that the plan is effectively implemented.
- Schedule and participate in departmental evacuation drills, ensure that roll calls are conducted and prepare post-mortem drill reports.
- Maintain and schedule the servicing of the facility fire equipment.
- Schedule and perform regular internal audits to measure performance.
- Schedule ASIB inspections and close-out report findings where required.
- Maintain weekly testing of the sprinkler system and schedule the servicing of equipment.
- Participate and lead incident investigations and log IOD claims with the DOL/Compensation Commissioner.
- Perform, participate, and lead the risk assessment process for all operations.
- Preparation, implementation, and revision of safe work procedures for all operations.
- Prepare and participate in weekly departmental TBT’s.
- Implement, maintain and update legal register and implement a legal tracker for the facility.
- Work closely with the OHNP and assist in arranging personnel for Annual Medicals.
- Schedule and attend monthly H&S Committee meetings and ensure 50/50 representation between management and OHS Reps.
- Maintain and update legal organogram and ensure that all legal appointments are current and up to date.
- Implement and maintain equipment and facility inspections and ensure registers are kept where required.
- Implement and maintain safe system of work for all operations.
- Schedule required Occupational Hygiene Surveys and review survey findings with management.
- Implement and maintain a near miss and hazard identification reporting system and report monthly on behaviours and actions.
- Arrange and conduct HSE induction for visitors, contractors, service providers, new employees and annual induction for employees.
- Order and issue PPE to employees where required and maintain an up to date PPE issue register.
- Facilitate training of personnel in the correct use of PPE.
- Compile monthly HSE report and presentations.
- Monitor and analyse HSE trends and data including the facility DIRF.
- Maintain an up to date register for hazardous chemical substances and facilitate the training of employees with relevant MSDS.
- Ensure an up to date training matrix of all staff and schedule recertification for certificates expiring.
- Implement and maintain regular housekeeping inspections for all departments.
- Manage all contractors, cleaners and service providers and ensure 37.2 Mandatory Agreements are current and in place.
- Ensure that the facility and service providers LOG is current and up to date.
- Maintain an up to date waste register with waste manifests and safe disposal certificates and ensure minutes are kept.
- Maintain and revise security site instructions in line with business risks and ensure all security personnel are trained.
- Maintain an Onsite Security file with required security personnel information.
- Maintain and manage all security registers (including personnel and vehicle stock movement).
- Report any fire hazard or risk observations to the Factory Manager.
