Job Overview:
The Senior Supervisor in a bakery manufacturing facility is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the smooth operation of the production process. This position involves managing a team of production staff, ensuring quality standards, optimizing workflows, and maintaining a safe working environment. The Senior Supervisor plays a key role in troubleshooting production issues, mentoring staff, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to meet production goals and maintain high-quality bakery products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Supervision:
o Oversee and manage daily bakery production activities, ensuring the production schedule is followed and goals are met.
o Supervise a team of operators, bakers, and production workers to ensure smooth operations.
o Act as the first point of contact for resolving production challenges and troubleshooting issues that arise on the production floor.
o Monitor and manage production timelines, ensuring on-time delivery of finished products.
2. Quality Control and Assurance:
o Ensure all bakery products are manufactured in accordance with established quality standards and specifications.
o Conduct regular quality checks on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to maintain consistency and product
excellence.
o Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
3. Team Leadership and Development:
o Provide leadership and guidance to production staff, ensuring they are trained in bakery operations, food safety, and company
procedures.
o Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback and supporting team development.
o Lead by example, motivating the team to meet or exceed production targets while maintaining a positive and collaborative work
environment.
o Assist in onboarding new staff and provide ongoing training to ensure adherence to safety standards and production best practices.
4. Safety and Compliance:
o Enforce adherence to all safety protocols, sanitation standards, and food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, GMP, OSHA).
o Monitor the work environment for safety hazards and take immediate corrective action when necessary.
o Ensure that all employees are properly using protective equipment and following safe work practices.
5. Process Optimization and Efficiency:
o Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and reduce waste through process analysis and team collaboration.
o Lead continuous improvement initiatives, implementing new technologies, techniques, or procedures to optimize production.
o Track production performance against key metrics (e.g., efficiency, downtime, waste) and identify areas for improvement.
6. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
o Monitor the condition of production equipment and machinery, ensuring it is in good working order.
o Report any equipment issues to the maintenance department and ensure timely repairs or adjustments are made.
o Oversee the proper use and maintenance of bakery equipment, ensuring operators are trained on its correct operation.
7. Inventory and Supply Management:
o Assist in managing inventory levels of raw materials and finished products to ensure continuous production.
o Ensure accurate stock counts, handle any discrepancies, and report any shortages to management.
o Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of materials and avoid production delays.
8. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of production data, including output, raw material usage, and quality control checks.
o Prepare and submit daily/weekly production reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators and any concerns.
o Ensure all documentation is compliant with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field is preferred.
o Relevant certifications in food safety or quality control are a plus.
• Experience:
o Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in food manufacturing, specifically in a bakery or similar environment.
o At least 2-3 years in a supervisory role, with proven experience managing production teams.
o Strong understanding of bakery production processes, equipment, and ingredients.
• Skills:
o Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team in a fast-paced environment.
o Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills.
o Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and quality standards (HACCP, GMP, etc.).
o Familiarity with production planning, inventory management, and performance reporting.
o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
