A large Food manufacturing company in Cape Town is looking for a qualified SHE Manager for their Production Plant.
Purpose: To develop, implement, and maintain the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) systems, ensuring legal compliance with all applicable legislation while minimizing and mitigating risks for the company and its employees.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Environmental Management Certificate or Diploma (advantageous)
Safety Management Certificate - SAMTRAC or BTech Degree/Diploma
Auditor Certificate (SAATCA) (advantageous)
Strong knowledge of applicable SHE legislation and standards
Proven experience in managing SHE systems in a manufacturing or similar environment
Excellent organizational, auditing, and communication skills
Ability to develop and implement comprehensive safety programs
Development and Implementation:
Ownership, development, and implementation of the SHE Management System
Development of emergency and crisis management plans
Creation and execution of environmental monitoring plans and footprint reduction initiatives
Compliance and Audits:
Ensuring adherence to all legal SHE requirements and standards
Conducting internal and external audits across departments and following up on deviations
Overseeing SOP compliance, job observations, and safety registers
Engagement and Liaison:
Coordinating SHE meetings and ensuring adherence to schedules
Liaising with local authorities, suppliers, and government departments
Management and Oversight:
Managing the OHS Clinic, including medical surveillance and IOD reporting
Monitoring and reviewing SHE progress
Drawing up and managing central SHE and OHS Clinic budgets
Training and Culture Development:
Conducting mandatory EHS training for all employees annually
Driving the development of a strong safety culture within the organization
Identifying and organizing training needs
Risk and Hazard Control:
Performing hazard identification and risk assessments for new equipment or structural changes
Coordinating occupational hygiene and environmental surveys
Reporting and Communication:
Preparing and communicating DIFR reports and safety deviations
Sharing relevant safety information with employees and management teams
This role is crucial for maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, minimizing risks, and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
