National group are seeking an experienced Factory Manager to manage all the major functions of the factory in order to produce products effectively, efficiently and safely whilst ensuring the productivity and well-being of all employees
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning, organizing, formulating, directing and controlling the production activities
- Monitors bark deliveries and forwards concerns and disputes regarding quotas and grading
- Monitors requirement, usage, orders and deliveries of fuel and chemicals
- Monitors production plan and production activities accordingly
- Reports on production progress
- Liaises with Shipping/Marketing re production requirements
Manage factory budgets, fixed and variable costs, capex, maintenance and abnormal maintenance.
- Ensures that annual budgets are developed
- Ensures that a 5-year strategic budget plan is in place
- Ensures that all capital items are planned for and budgeted
- Monitors the expenditure against budgets
- Reports on budget figures
Review overall factory performance, and implement and maintain operational strategies
- Ensures the monitoring of operational standards and efficiencies
- Ensures the timeous loading and despatching of products according to order
- Ensures change management of production line organisation
- Manages and reports on factory performance
Ensure that maintenance is efficiently carried out and new projects are undertaken for uninterrupted, safe and optimal production, and the safety of employees
- Ensures the identification of maintenance requirements for all plant and machinery
- Ensures the identification of all building and structural maintenance requirements throughout the factory hostel and residential premises
- Ensures residential electrical distribution and reticulation system is maintained in safe and reliable condition
- Participates in the design of all major plant alteration or reconstruction in liaison internal or external consultants
Ensure the optimal application of all company and Human Resources policies and procedures
- Ensure the implementation of all factory-relevant company policies
- Ensures the selection and appointment of necessary positions according to policy, Employment Equity Plan and requirements of Job Profiles
- Ensures the appropriate payment of employees, and monitoring of overtime compliant with the BCEA.
- Ensures the appropriate application of employee benefits, including medical assistance, accommodation etc.
- Ensures the maintenance and improvement of employee relations.
- Participates in CCMA hearings as required.
- Participates in meetings with recognised Unions and wage negotiating meetings
Ensure effective performance of subordinates and teams
- Recommends new appointments to meet the approved needs of the factory department
- Ensures the induction, training and development of the factory teams
- Ensures open lines of two-way communication
- Ensures continuous and annual performance feedback
- Ensures workplace discipline through example and facilitating the grievance process, and corrective and disciplinary procedures
Ensure that production and safety standards are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Acts as responsible person under Section 16(2) for compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993, as amended
- Ensures compliance with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
- Ensures maintenance and improvement of safety standards
- Ensures that emergency and contingency plans for factory and residential areas are in place
- Ensures the appointment of a responsible person/ employer under General Machinery Regulation 2 for safety committee compliance
- Liaises with various government departments with regards to health, safety, water and environmental issues
- Ensures residential and factory health standards are met with respect to sanitation, water and refuse removal
Comply with the requirements of ISO and Quality management Systems
- Maintain standard formats of documentation
- Issue incidents and QIRs
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12
- Tertiary qualification (Batchelors or National Diploma) in Engineering
- Qualification in Business Administration (an added advantage)
- Qualification in Project Management
- 5+ years experience in an industrial process plant
- 5+ years experience in leading a management team
- 5+ years experience in safety management and quality control systems
