A vacancy exists in the department for a contract Lecturer to teach Statistics in the Extended Curriculum Programme. This position may be renewed based on continued funding. In addition to teaching responsibilities, involvement in research activities is encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Statistics/Data Science
- Conduct research and publish on topics related to Statistics/Data Science
- Undertake undergraduate and/or postgraduate supervision
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment
- Engage with the community/industry and conduct outreach
Minimum Requirements:
- MSc in Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematical Statistics
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in Statistics or Data Science
- Proven expertise in applying complex statistical and data science techniques using statistical packages such as SAS, R, and/or Python
Advantageous Criteria:
- Currently registered for a PhD in Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematical Statistics
- A record of successful postgraduate supervision at the honours level
- A record of quality peer-reviewed publications in Statistics, Applied Statistics, or Data Science
- Adaptability and ability to operate in a diverse environment
- Student-focused approach
- Interest in supervising postgraduate level industry-directed research
- Planning and organizing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Presentation and facilitation skills
- Knowledge and skills in learning and teaching, research and scholarship, and community engagement
