Job Overview
The Mechanical Foreman is a critical leadership role responsible for managing mechanical personnel, maintenance operations, and ensuring plant reliability and operational continuity within a chrome plant environment. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining high standards of equipment performance, safety, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Personnel Management
- Lead, guide, and supervise a team of mechanical personnel.
- Develop and implement team performance improvement strategies.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Coordinate and schedule workforce activities to optimize plant operations.
- Mentor and train junior mechanical staff to enhance their technical skills.
Maintenance and Equipment Management
- Oversee comprehensive plant maintenance activities.
- Ensure equipment reliability and maximize plant availability.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and assess maintenance requirements.
- Manage and prioritize maintenance work orders.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and replacement strategies.
- Investigate and resolve mechanical equipment failures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
Operational Efficiency and Cost Management
- Implement cost-effective maintenance strategies.
- Optimize resource allocation and minimize operational downtime.
- Monitor and control maintenance expenditures.
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and equipment upgrades.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to safety policies, procedures, and regulatory statutes.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols within the mechanical department.
- Conduct regular safety training and risk assessments.
- Investigate and report safety incidents.
- Maintain compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
Technical and Administrative Duties
- Prepare comprehensive maintenance reports.
- Analyze equipment performance data.
- Participate in plant management meetings.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Qualifications and Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate.
- National Diploma in Engineering Studies (N3).
- Trade Certificate in Fitting.
- Foreman or Supervisory Skills Certificate (Advantageous).
Experience
- Minimum of 5-10 years in a Chrome Plant environment.
- Minimum of 5-10 years experience as a Mechanical Foreman.
- Proven track record of successful maintenance management.
