Job Description
Providing a consulting engineering service for the design, implementation and close-out of Building Controls & Telecommunications infrastructure as well as ICT & ELV (Extra Low Voltage) systems for Large Scale Data Centres. The systems typically comprise of the following:
- CCTV Monitoring & Recording Systems
- Access Control Systems
- Structured Cabling design with broad based knowledge of network and IT related equipment
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Fibre Optic Network design including Ethernet and GPON solution architecture
- High Performance Computing & Storage Server hardware is advantageous
- Project Management and Coordination with other Building Services
- Knowledge and experience with Autodesk BIM (Revit, Navisworks, Glue, Field, etc.) and CAD software (Advantageous)
This role comprises of a wholistic ELV & ICT consulting spectrum from inception, detail design, documentation and procurement, construction, site monitoring and project closeout. This role will comprise of predominantly Controls & Telecoms, but ICT Services and ELV Engineering Services experience will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting senior engineers and engineers in all project phases as per PROCSA, NEC, JBCC and other engineering contracts
- Project and Engineering report writing
- High-level quality to the attention to detail when performing design reviews, for sign-off, with internal working peers and BIM team.
- Maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting established organizational objectives.
- Ability to offer input with multiple engineering disciplines in project meetings.
- Good client marketing characteristics and including external project professional team members.
- Must be a team player and be able to work independently on challenging projects that may have tight timelines.
- Proficient in Telecoms, Controls, ELV & ICT design and commissioning systems in accordance to local and international standards.
- Proficient in Data Centre technologies and design criteria calculations.
- An understanding or familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS). (Global ANSI/EIA/TIA & ISO standards specifically pertaining to Data Centers will be advantageous).
- Design, based on client requirements and specifications
- Proficient in various modeling software and BIM conversant will be advantageous (AutoCAD, Revit, ACC, etc.)
- A understanding of all project stages from inception through to close-out and competent in constructing and compiling tender documentation and management of that process will be advantageous.
- Assisting senior engineers and engineers in the formulation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s)
- Specialist equipment specifications understanding and approvals
- Quality control (QA/QC)
- Site supervision and construction monitoring
- Trouble shooting on existing installations
- Cost control (related to ELV & ICT scope only)
- Project scoping and scope monitoring
- Multiple Contractor and contract management (ICT, ELV & C&I discipline)
- Fundamental understanding of ICT & Electronic systems.

Qualifications
- Minimum BEng / BSc / BTech degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
- SAQCC registration is advantageous
- No post graduation electronic services engineering experience is required, but will be advantageous
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Must have an interest in ELV design on Data Centre projects
- Must have an interest in ELV & ICT construction monitoring on Data Centre projects.
- Any understand and/or experience in Revit and/or ACC will be advantageous.
- Individual currently in employ of a consulting entity will be advantageous but not required.
- Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng eligible for registration will be advantageous but not required.

- Experience in various Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM360 suite)
- Must be self-motivated
- Excellent communicator and good discussion and problem resolution skills
- A self-starter who can run with and manage his own projects with the guidance of a senior engineer
- Must be responsible and have a high level of self-sufficiency and be able to apply common sense
- Must have a questioning and inquisitive mind
