KEY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Senior Industrial Engineer is responsible for successfully developing processes to
introduce and improve products and assembly processes as defined by the needs mandated
by clients, projects, and other stakeholders such that it achieves outputs that meet the
requirements.
KEY TASKS
New Product Introduction / Development :
- Responsible for the introduction of new products into production, particularly the
design and implementation of the manufacturing processes in line with the industrial
requirements and the objectives of the project and/or client. - Responsible for developing the Industrial Management Plan (IMP) for new products,
including a viable ramp up plan. - Responsible for ensuring the required ramp up is achieved for new products in
accordance with the IMP. - Responsible for the development and maintenance of the production data pack.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of assembly documentation.
- Responsible for new and updated process information in the ERP system.
- Responsible for product / process FMEA’s to identify industrial risks and implement
mitigations where required. - Assist during all phases of evolution and customization of a standard product
(including design, qualification, industrialization, and engineering support during
production). - Assist with creating, maintaining, and updating test procedures and results sheets.
Production Lines and Facilities: - Responsible for the implementation of 5S in production.
- Responsible for Process / Product quality failure improvements.
- Responsible for improvements in materials flow and allocations in stores and
production. - Responsible for designing, improving and commissioning production lines and cells
according to applicable standards. - Responsible for performing detailed line balancing and ensure the successful
completion of the task sequencings. - Responsible for implementing Lean Manufacturing principles to continuously improve
processes and production KPI’s. - Responsible for establishing operational methods and work standards and confirming
task duration - Responsible for optimising productivity (man, machine, and material) by analysing
current processes and methods and identification of improvement projects in the
cleanroom. - Responsible for the training of production staff on new products.
- Responsible for ensuring the timeous availability of tools and workstations; aligned
with SHEQ requirements. - Responsible for capacity planning and reporting.
- Responsible for identifying and implementing standard processes.
- Responsible for identifying and implementing new systems for operations.
- Responsible for performing product materials utilization analysis.
- Responsible for identifying manufacturing cost improvements in terms of materials
and labour. - Accountable for mentoring junior team members.
- Assist in the development and manufacturing of aids, tools and jigs.
- Assist with the introduction and support of manufacturing technologies, equipment
and processes in production. - Assist with training production staff on the use of assembly fixtures and equipment.
- Advocate for DFM during the product R&D phase
- Other ad-hoc duties as required by company.
PREREQUISITES
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification:
- >7 years of relevant work experience
- New product introduction/product development experience – Very important
- Experience in electronics hardware manufacturing environment
- Good knowledge and experience in technical support in a manufacturing environment
- Lean manufacturing experience
Additional knowledge areas that would strengthen the application - Knowledge of satellite subsystems and the space environment.
- Cleanroom, ESD, and optical assembly environment experience
