We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead our Legal and Financial Wellness departments. As the Head of Legal/Financial Wellness, you will play a critical role in guiding our organization through complex legal landscapes while also promoting financial well-being among our stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, lead and motivate a team of Legal Advisors.
- Manage workflow of finance clients.
- Handle issues related to legal matters such as reckless lending and prescriptions.
- Provide sound legal advice on the National Credit Act.
- Develop work strategies that align with business rules.
- Handle queries escalated by the legal team.
- Draft legal documents.
- Conduct garnishee investigations.
- Compile progress reports for the Executive.
- Manage paid-up Bureau updates where the FSP refuses to provide a paid-up letter or update the bureaus.
- Provide training pertaining to NCA and relevant regulations.
- Manage incidental queries related to debt review and FSP's contravention of any provision of the NCA.
Job Competencies:
- Knowledge of different routes of alternative dispute resolution.
- Ability to assess and direct each complaint/query to the relevant ombuds or regulator.
- Ability to confidently and thoroughly engage FSP's as significant as the ‘big 5' banks in South Africa.
- Deadline driven.
- Strong problem-solving skills that result in effective and efficient dispute resolutions.
Desired Work Experience:
- A minimum of 4, preferably 6 years' experience in a senior role.
- Proven experience as a Legal Manager in the long-term insurance industry.
- Experience with National Credit Acts and compliance.
Desired Education Level:
- Grade 12/Matric.
- Degree in Law (LLB) or relevant qualification.
- Master's degree / MBA or suitable postgraduate degree will be an advantage.
