We are currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel (79915) to join our dynamic team in Kempton Park .
Duties & Responsibilities
Report to:
Areas of responsibility:
- Support of DSV entities in South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa in all legal matters.
- Contract support.
- Corporate compliance.
- Participation and support of review processes of contracts in case of M&A transactions.

Tasks:
- The Senior Legal Counsel, South Africa shall be the first local point of contact for queries outside and inside of the DSV organization in respect of all legal related matters concerning the DSV entities in South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa.
- Supporting local management on a daily basis.
- General corporate housekeeping, including adhoc preparation training sessions to key stakeholders within business.
- Monitoring changes in the local legislation.
- Dealings with local authorities, if required.
- Assisting Group Credit and local credit departments with managing the process of recovery of bad debt in collaboration with External Legal Counsel.
- Drafting, review and negotiating of the commercial contracts in accordance with DSV Contractual Compliance Manual.
- Supporting and managing litigation (pre-litigation, trial and/or transactions) in collaboration with Group Legal and External Legal Counsel.
- Supporting the Group Customs dept. as well as local customs team on customs related matters, if required.
- Supporting local teams of international freight forwarders in accordance with DSV Export Controls Policy, if required.
- Being responsible for reporting claims timeously internally and to various centralized Group HQ Departments (Group Finance, Group Insurance and Group Legal).
- Facilitate communication with External Legal Counsel.
- Ensuring compliance with corporate policies.
- Provide reporting of contract related information in Weekly Reports as well as Significant Issues Report.
Key Stakeholders:
- Local Management Team including MD’s for each business unit and the CFO.
- Sales and Operational Teams of each business unit.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- LLB Degree.
- At least 5 years of experience as in-house counsel or as a lawyer.
- Experience in transport and logistics.
- Experience in international negotiation of commercial contracts.
- Knowledge and Experience of Privacy Laws and Regulations with the ability to provide training to key stakeholders.
- English – oral and written must be fluent.
- Experience in the use of MS Office – in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to navigate the balance between quality and deadlines (Critical job factor).

- Strong personality with an ability to get the necessary messages across (Critical job factor).
- Able to plan a project and drive the execution.
