Santam BITS has a career opportunity for a senior role of IT Systems Analyst in the Santam Technology Services (STS) department which is based in the Western Cape or Gauteng.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Analysing current IT systems and processes:
- Analyse and assess key measures (KPI/KPA) within the organization's IT systems.
- Conduct system audits and performance evaluations.
- Map out existing workflows and data flows.
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in current systems.
- Assess hardware and software capabilities.
Identifying areas for improvement and optimization:
- Ensure the proper configuration and maintenance of technologies to maximize effectiveness.
- Propose solutions to enhance system efficiency.
- Recommend upgrades or replacements for outdated technologies.
- Suggest process improvements to streamline operations.
Gathering and documenting user requirements:
- Conduct interviews with stakeholders and end-users.
- Facilitate workshops to capture business needs.
- Prioritize requirements based on business impact and feasibility.
Designing and implementing new systems:
- Develop system architecture and design documents.
- Create flowcharts and diagrams to illustrate system design.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure proper implementation.
- Oversee system testing and quality assurance processes.
Conducting feasibility studies for IT projects:
- Evaluate technical feasibility of proposed solutions.
- Assess financial viability and return on investment.
- Analyze potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management decision-making.
Collaborating with developers, engineers, and other IT staff:
- Participate in cross-functional team meetings.
- Communicate technical requirements to development teams.
- Coordinate with network administrators on infrastructure needs.
- Liaise between IT department and other business units.
Providing technical support and troubleshooting:
- Respond to user-reported issues and system errors.
- Diagnose complex technical problems.
- Develop and implement solutions or workarounds.
- Escalate issues to appropriate teams when necessary.
Creating and maintaining system documentation:
- Write user manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Develop and update technical specifications.
- Maintain system diagrams and architectural documentation.
- Create and manage knowledge base articles.
Ensuring data integrity and security:
- Implement data validation and quality control measures.
- Collaborate with security teams to enforce data protection policies.
- Conduct regular security audits of systems.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
Conducting user training on new systems or features:
- Develop training materials and user guides.
- Deliver hands-on training sessions to end-users.
- Create e-learning modules for self-paced training.
- Gather feedback to improve training effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Relevant industry certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, or CISM are highly valuable.
- 3-5 years of experience as an IT systems analyst or in a similar role.
- Development background with some experience in information security is preferred.
- Experience with requirements gathering, system design, and implementation.
