Job Description
- Log received samples into the SLIMS using work orders from the client.
- Analyze all analytical samples using the correct procedures and/or methods.
- Print sample labels.
- Ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing.
- Report results within the specified time frame.
- Follow all quality directives of this Department.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation.
- Bring all technical and managerial problems to the attention of the Chemist.
- Adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
- Ensure that housekeeping in the receiving/working areas is in order.
- Comply with the Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
- Assist with the preparation of SANAS audits.
- Record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
- Ensure all analytical data and calculations are traceable and stored in relevant files or LIMS.
- Work in other areas and/or Divisions if requested.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Follow Supervisors' clear detailed instructions and demonstrate flexibility in executing duties.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the direct line manager.
- Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements of the SGS OI Management System, country legislation, Rules for Life, local legal requirements, and laws.
- Comply with the QHSE, Global, and country policies of SGS.
- Participate in Operational Integrity projects and campaigns.
- Report Health, Safety, and Environmental hazards, incidents/accidents, and near misses to the Supervisor/SHE Representative/Location Manager/OI Site Coordinator.
- Apply Check status process and use the Stop Work Authority whenever the control of risks is not clearly established and understood.
- Observe and report any faulty/nonfunctioning apparatus or equipment and deviations from process/protocols/procedures/work instructions to the Supervisor/Location Manager.
- Assist in investigations.
- Ensure that all proper procedures/working instructions are followed.
- Assist with training of employees where required.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in all work areas at all times.
- Participate in all HSE Procedures/Working instructions, Integrity, Safe Talks, Toolbox talks, etc. training.
- Assist in the monthly stock counts within the department.
Qualifications
- BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and/or proven years of laboratory knowledge, skills, and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning.
- Grade 12.
Additional Information
- Be a South African citizen (able to produce a valid South African ID document).
- Be between the ages of 18-30.
- Must have no criminal record.
- Must be able to work in Cape Town.
- Computer Literacy (use of MS Office suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency in completing tasks.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Self-motivated and high level of initiative.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System would be advantageous.
- Must be able to troubleshoot instruments and methods used.
