Job Description
The Learning Designer at AMI will play a key role in supporting both business development and learning design efforts within a tech-enabled learning environment. This unique position focuses on providing critical support to the Business Development (BD) team by helping to understand client needs, conducting Learning Needs Analyses, and scoping tailored learning solutions. You will also contribute to the design and development of learning programs, workshops, tools, courses, and materials for both custom client projects and AMI’s core product library.
This role offers a balance of strategic input into client proposals and hands-on instructional design, allowing you to shape learning experiences that drive real impact across Africa’s business landscape.
The Learning Solutions Designer will focus on both core workplace learning programmes and custom client learning programmes. Additionally, the role will play a significant role in supporting the Business Development (BD) teams in AMI Enterprise to understand customer needs, gather feedback, and review proposals – including support in scoping and presenting learning designs. This role also includes team leadership responsibilities for the Learning Designer Amplify who will support the Solutions Designer in the delivery of these designs.
In this role, you will oversee learning designer(s) and content development efforts that support Enterprise client project delivery, including ongoing core and custom programme development to support world-class learning design. You will collaborate with project clients, partners, AMI internal stakeholders, multimedia developers, technology platform teams, and subject matter experts to create learning experiences that demonstrate sound learning strategies, produce desired learning outcomes, and develop targeted competencies and practices.
As a Learning Solutions Designer, you’ll need to thrive and succeed in a very collaborative, fast-paced environment with competing priorities. You’ll also need to have experience (and enjoy) managing a team of learning and content designers.
Business Development and Client Scoping Support
Continuously refine the consultative sales process flow and create supportive learning tools for the Enterprise BD team to conduct thorough discovery calls.
Partner with the BD team to understand and interpret client learning needs during the pre-sales process.
Conduct Learning Needs Analyses (LNAs) for prospective clients, gathering data to inform customized learning solutions.
Work with BD to scope learning solutions that align with AMI’s unique value proposition and core offering while aligning to client objectives, delivering detailed learning proposals and frameworks.
Where existing solutions do not adequately solve the client’s problem, designing customized or new solutions, including the cost and components of delivery.
Provide input on learning strategies and recommendations during the proposal and contract negotiation stages, ensuring solutions meet both client and business goals.
Learning Design for Client Projects
Design and develop customized learning programs, workshops, tools, and courses tailored to specific client needs.
Work closely with subject matter experts, facilitators, and clients to ensure learning solutions are engaging, relevant, and impactful.
Ensure that all designed materials align with AMI’s learning methodologies and standards, focusing on outcomes-based learning.
Contribution to Core Product Library
Contribute to the development and enhancement of AMI’s core learning product library, creating scalable and adaptable learning content.
Design high-quality, user-friendly learning tools and resources that support AMI’s mission to equip African managers and entrepreneurs with practical skills.
Ensure that new products and updates are aligned with the latest learning design principles and are relevant to AMI’s diverse audience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with various teams across AMI, including facilitation, content production, and product management, to ensure cohesive learning experiences.
Actively engage in discussions with clients, internal teams, and stakeholders to refine and enhance learning programs.
Improvement and Innovation
Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in learning design, particularly in the tech-enabled learning space.
Contribute ideas and insights to continually improve AMI’s learning products, ensuring that they remain cutting-edge and impactful.
Requirements
3 years of Proven experience in learning design, instructional design, or a related field.
Strong background in developing learning solutions for both core products and custom client programs.
Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with sales teams, clients, and internal stakeholders.
Experience leading and managing a team of learning designers.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
Skills & attributes
Deep knowledge of adult learning theory and how to apply these theories in the design of learning experiences.
Recent experience designing instruction for leaders including the design of multimedia training.
Recent experience in supporting BD and/or Sales teams in scoping learning, training, or content solutions – including LNA/TNA, costing, and outcomes development.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to edit and perform quality assurance (QA) on your own work.
Understanding of agile methodology and ability to handle multiple priorities in a very fluid working environment.
High proficiency and productivity in G Suite tools, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, etc.
Exhibit solid interpersonal and communication skills that enable successful internal and external interaction in a variety of modes including face-to-face meetings, phone calls, phone conferences, virtual meetings, and written communication.
Ability to work on your own and with diverse teams.
