Job Responsibilities
- Contributing to research by rendering desired support to research personnel to ensure the successful completion of research projects in compliance with set standards.
- Assist with general laboratory tasks.
- Sample preparation.
- Preparing and pouring of media.
- Fungal isolations.
- Field work including inoculation trials for grapevine and fruit trees as well as sampling.
- Monitor weeds and disease outbreaks in glasshouses and tunnels.
- Ensuring optimal use of facilities, equipment and project resources.
- Cleaning of laboratories and laboratory glassware.
- Maintenance of equipment.
- Complying with SHE/OHS regulations and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- 2 years of applicable experience in research support
- Lab experience must be in one of the following areas (or similar), Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Plant Breeding (i.e. tissue culture)
- Experience in: Operation of lab equipment, i.e. autoclaves, laminar flow cabinets, lab scales, etc.
- Isolation of fungal pathogens from plant material
- Valid driver’s license
- Basic computer skills
