As the Deputy Chief Technology Officer, you will be the catalyst for operational excellence and a high-performance culture within our dynamic TechLab. Working closely with the CTO, you’ll play a pivotal role in executing an ambitious technology roadmap by providing strategic leadership across resource management, project coordination, and team development. Your focus will be on maximizing team productivity, nurturing a positive and collaborative work environment, and upholding our commitment to open-source principles and active community engagement.
In this role, you’ll champion efficient workflows and resource utilization, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget while promoting a healthy work-life balance. Your technical expertise, combined with a passion for our mission, will empower the team to build impactful solutions advancing digital democracy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Team Management (30%) - Build a High-Performing Team: Lead strategic recruitment and onboarding to integrate new team members smoothly into the TechLab. Invest in continuous learning, mentorship, and career development.
- Define Strategic Direction: Set clear goals and a unified vision, aligning team objectives with organizational goals. Encourage a culture of excellence, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Performance Management: Establish robust systems for feedback, recognition, and evaluation, motivating team members and valuing their contributions.
- Innovation: Keep the team updated with industry trends and open-source advancements to maintain high standards in technology and design.
2. Software Development Management (30%) - Project Lifecycle Oversight: Coordinate the full software development cycle, emphasizing on-time delivery and high-quality output.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders on requirements and timelines, ensuring all phases meet their expectations.
- Team Well-being: Balance workloads and prevent burnout while maximizing productivity.
3. Knowledge Management & Advocacy (15%) - Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate inter-departmental collaboration to draw on diverse expertise.
- Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Maintain detailed and up-to-date project documentation and record-keeping.
- Storytelling & Knowledge Sharing: Actively work with the engagement team to share insights about processes and tools, fostering a culture of openness.
4. Partnership Management (15%) - Client Relations: Develop strong client relationships to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions. Serve as the primary contact for technical matters, ensuring clarity and effective communication.
- Client Support: Lead efforts to resolve technical challenges promptly and oversee negotiation of favorable technology agreements aligned with clients' strategic goals.
5. Administrative Responsibilities (10%) - Personal Time Management: Independently manage your time across projects, keeping leadership informed.
- Team Admin Support: Guide your direct reports in administrative tasks and be a resource for effective project management.
