Financial Controller | Manchester City | Paying up to £75k DOE | 5 days on site
Are you a commercially minded finance professional ready to take ownership of a finance function and make a real impact on business performance?
We're looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join a growing, fast-paced organisation, working closely with the Finance Director and senior leadership team. This is a key position within the business, combining strong technical accounting expertise with commercial insight and the opportunity to influence strategic decisions.
You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting while helping the business understand what drives performance, revenue and profitability across its UK and Australian operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established Financial Controller, an ambitious Finance Manager looking for their next step, or a technically strong Management Accountant ready to take on broader responsibility.
The role
You'll have ownership of the financial reporting cycle, leading the month-end process, overseeing the balance sheet and ensuring robust financial controls are maintained. Alongside the Finance Director, you'll play a central role in budgeting, forecasting and providing meaningful financial insight to support business decisions.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
Taking ownership of the P&L, balance sheet and financial controls across UK and Australian entities.
Producing insightful management accounts, variance analysis and financial commentary.
Supporting the Finance Director with Board reporting and presenting clear financial performance insights.
Managing the annual budgeting process and regular financial forecasts.
Overseeing statutory accounts, external audits, VAT and wider tax compliance.
Reviewing financial processes and controls, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Working closely with operational and commercial teams to understand revenue, costs and profitability.
Supporting pricing, contract and business development decisions through financial analysis.
Leading and developing a small finance team, setting clear expectations and supporting individual growth.
What we're looking for
We're keen to hear from finance professionals who combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and the confidence to influence at senior level.
You'll bring:
ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
Experience in a Senior Finance position within a commercial environment.
Strong technical accounting knowledge, including month-end reporting, balance sheet management and financial controls.
Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing external audits.
A good understanding of budgeting, forecasting and financial performance analysis.
The ability to turn financial data into meaningful insight and confidently challenge business decisions where appropriate.
Experience managing, coaching or developing a finance team.
Experience within a subscription-based or recurring-revenue business would be particularly beneficial, as would exposure to multi-entity or international reporting. Familiarity with systems such as Access Dimensions, Salesforce or Power BI would also be advantageous.
We're also interested in people who are curious about how technology, automation and AI can help modernise finance processes.
Why consider this opportunity?
This is more than a traditional Financial Controller position. You'll have the opportunity to shape and improve the finance function, work closely with senior decision makers and contribute directly to the commercial direction of the business.
You'll benefit from:
A senior position with genuine influence and autonomy.
Close partnership with the Finance Director and wider leadership team.
Scope to improve processes, systems and reporting through technology and automation.
The opportunity to broaden your responsibilities and progress as the business continues to grow.
