Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic School Cook to prepare and serve high-quality, nutritious meals for pupils and staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for food preparation, cooking, food safety compliance, stock management, and maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook nutritious meals in accordance with menu plans and dietary requirements.
Ensure meals are served on time and to the required quality standards.
Comply with all food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen regulations.
Monitor food temperatures and maintain accurate records.
Order, receive, and check deliveries of food and kitchen supplies.
Manage food stock levels and minimise waste.
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and preparation areas.
Ensure all kitchen operations comply with Food Standards Agency (FSA) guidelines.
Support and supervise kitchen assistants where required.
Follow school safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Report any equipment faults, maintenance issues, or health and safety concerns promptly.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience working as a cook, chef, or catering professional.
Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices.
Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Understanding of allergen awareness and dietary requirements.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have enhanced Child DBS or be willing to undertake one
Desirable Requirements
Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate.
Previous experience in a school, care home, or large-scale catering environment.
Knowledge of special dietary needs and allergen management.
Relevant catering or hospitality qualifications.
