Pay Rate: £16.52 per hour, including shift premium
Shift Pattern: Rotating Morning and Afternoon Shifts
The Role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Tube Mill Setter / Operator to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting, operating and controlling the Tube Mill safely and efficiently, ensuring production targets are met and products consistently meet quality specifications.
This role requires CNC-level competence in HMI operation, mechanical setting and process adjustment. The ideal candidate will have the technical knowledge and practical judgement to respond to changes in material and tooling conditions, make controlled adjustments within approved limits, and recognise when to stop production and escalate an issue.
Working Hours
The role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
-
Morning shift: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 am–2:00 pm; Friday, 6:00 am–11:00 am.
-
Afternoon shift: Monday to Thursday, 2:00 pm–10:00 pm; Friday, 11:00 am–4:00 pm.
Employees will rotate between the two shifts.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating the Tube Mill, selecting the correct HMI recipes and process settings, and ensuring that the correct tooling is fitted and aligned. They will monitor the forming, welding, scarfing and cutting processes, making small, controlled adjustments within approved limits to maintain product quality and consistent machine performance.
Quality control will be a key part of the role. Responsibilities include carrying out first-off inspections, checking tube dimensions and weld conditions, completing required eddy-current and pressure or burst testing, and maintaining accurate production and traceability records. The operator must ensure that suspect or rejected products are identified and segregated appropriately.
The role also requires the ability to recognise material variation, tooling wear and equipment faults, understand their effect on the finished product, and take appropriate action. Production must be stopped and issues escalated whenever safety, quality or process control cannot be maintained within approved limits.
The successful candidate will also be expected to follow all health and safety procedures, check machine guards and safety systems before use, support colleagues in following correct working practices, and communicate effectively with Production, Maintenance and Quality teams.
Skills and Experience
Candidates should have experience in machine setting and operation, ideally within tube manufacturing, metal forming or a similar industrial environment. They must demonstrate CNC-level competence in HMI operation, mechanical setup, tooling alignment and process adjustment, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, work instructions and quality specifications.
A good understanding of welding processes, material and tooling variation, dimensional measurement and inspection procedures is essential. Candidates must be able to identify process problems, make safe adjustments within their authority, maintain accurate records and know when to stop and escalate issues rather than continue adjusting the machine.
We are looking for someone who is practical, methodical, safety-conscious and quality-focused, with good communication skills and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to the production team.
Pay and Grade
Grade 6 – £16.52 per hour, including shift premium.
This is an opportunity for a technically capable individual to take responsibility for Tube Mill setup, process control and product quality within a production environment.
How to Apply
