Are you an experienced SEND Support Assistant who understands that behaviour is often a form of communication?
PK Education is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEND Support Assistant to join a specialist primary nurture centre in the Castleford area.
The provision supports children aged 5–11 with significant Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, many of whom also have additional communication and interaction needs.
With a high level of adult support, the centre provides a structured, nurturing environment where positive relationships, consistency and individualised approaches are central to helping children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
The Role
As a SEND Support Assistant, you will:
Provide individual and small-group support to primary-aged children with complex SEMH needs.
Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication and social interaction.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children who may find mainstream educational environments challenging.
Implement individualised strategies to support behaviour, engagement and learning.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other support professionals to maintain a safe, consistent and nurturing environment.
Encourage independence, confidence and positive social development.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience supporting primary-aged children with SEMH difficulties and special educational needs.
A good understanding of emotional regulation, behaviour as communication and trauma-informed approaches.
Experience managing challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent and supportive manner.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to build positive relationships with children who require additional emotional and behavioural support.
A patient, resilient and adaptable approach.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children who require a more individualised approach to education.
Progress within a nurture provision is not always measured by academic achievement alone. It can be a child developing trust, learning to regulate their emotions or gaining the confidence to communicate their needs.
If you have the experience, understanding and commitment to support children with complex SEMH needs, we would welcome your application.
