On a fibre or data cabling job, the Tester is what proves the work is right. Our client hires Fluke Networks Testers and Certifiers and fibre fusion splicers to customers across the UK and Europe and is looking for a Tester Hire Operations Assistant to join the team in Kettering, reporting to the Head of Hire.
This role makes sure every hire goes right; every unit has to arrive complete, in calibration and ready to work. It's a close-knit team in a high-growth part of the business, and your work makes a direct difference to customers.
About Our Client
Our client is a UK distributor of structured cabling and fibre optic products, with a test equipment hire business run from Kettering.
What You'll Get:
Salary: £25,000 to £29,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Hours: A permanent, full-time, office-based role, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:15pm.
Benefits: Company pension, 23 days' holiday plus bank holidays, an extra day off on your birthday, Perkbox membership and a structured profit share bonus.
Growth: Ongoing personal development and training, with clear room to grow into quoting, account management and customer service.
Team: A hardworking, loyal, friendly and fun team that supports you to become an expert in your field.
What You'll Do:
Kit preparation: Pick, pack and prepare each hire kit, checking calibration, accessories and condition before anything leaves.
Security and paperwork: Fit trackers, apply and record seals, and complete the hire paperwork.
Returns: Book in, check and turn round returned equipment for the next customer the same day.
Inbox: Help manage the shared Tester Hire inbox.
Deliveries: Make hand deliveries and FedEx depot runs to Wellingborough.
Once the core duties are running smoothly, the role grows into the customer side of Tester Hire; chasing returns, collections and extensions, applying hire extensions, and handling enquiries and quotes. Throughout, quality comes before speed.
What You Need:
Attention to detail: You check your work, check it again and record what you find.
Speaking up: If something looks wrong, you raise it straight away rather than work around it.
Records and PC skills: Accurate record keeping, and confidence on a PC, particularly with email and spreadsheets.
Multi-tasking: You keep several jobs moving without letting accuracy slip.
Hands-on: Comfortable lifting equipment cases and handling high-value test kit with care.
Customers: Confident, professional communication by email and phone.
Team support: The ability to support and nurture less experienced members of the team.
Driving licence: A full UK driving licence is essential, for hand deliveries and the regular courier run.
What Would Help (not essential):
Background: Experience in a hire, stores, warehouse or logistics environment.
Kit knowledge: Familiarity with network test equipment, Fluke Networks kit or fibre fusion splicers.
Systems: Experience of an ERP or order system such as OrderWise, and familiarity with CRM practice.
Full training is provided. Our client is happy to hear from people without an industry background who bring the right attitude and a careful approach, because those are the qualities that matter most.
The current post holder will be training their successor, so they are keen to have someone in place quickly. Please apply through their recruitment portal as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
Closing Date: 24 November 2026
