Hawk3 Talent Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a engineering client for an analytical and commercially minded Data Analyst to join their team in Tiverton. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring data professional to play a key role in supporting business decisions, improving data quality and identifying opportunities to enhance commercial performance.
Working closely with teams across Customer Service, Sales, Finance, Purchasing and Manufacturing, you will analyse business data relating to pricing, costs, profit margins, discounts and sales performance. You will transform complex information into meaningful insights, helping the business make informed decisions and improve operational efficiency.
The role will also involve supporting data preparation and cleansing activities linked to business systems, alongside developing and maintaining reports, dashboards and analytical tools. This opportunity would suit a graduate, an early-career analyst or someone with a background in finance, accounting or business analysis who is looking to develop their technical skills and build a career in data analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Extract, cleanse, validate and analyse data from business systems and Excel spreadsheets.
Analyse pricing, costs, profit margins, discounts, sales performance and product profitability.
Identify trends, anomalies, risks and opportunities to improve commercial and operational performance.
Investigate data discrepancies, missing information, inconsistent product classifications and pricing or costing errors.
Produce accurate reports, analytical models and dashboards to support business decision-making.
Support data cleansing, validation and preparation activities linked to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and wider business improvement projects.
Develop and maintain Excel workbooks, reporting tools and analytical resources to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, reduce manual effort and minimise errors.
Work collaboratively with Customer Service, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Manufacturing and other departments to understand data requirements.
Translate complex data into clear, practical findings and recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
Maintain accurate documentation of data sources, analytical methods, assumptions and reporting procedures.
Manage competing priorities, respond to ad hoc analytical requests and deliver work within agreed deadlines.
Experience Required
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, tables, data cleansing and analytical modelling.
Good numerical and mathematical reasoning, with excellent attention to detail.
Basic knowledge of Python or a demonstrable ability and enthusiasm to learn it quickly.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and challenge unexpected results.
The ability to work independently, manage detailed datasets and take ownership of assigned tasks.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain findings clearly to non-technical colleagues.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
A proactive, curious and open-minded approach to learning and continuous improvement.
The ability to handle commercially sensitive information responsibly and maintain accurate records.
Experience with Power BI, SQL, Microsoft Access, VBA, Office Scripts or Power Automate would be advantageous.
Exposure to ERP systems, business system implementations, manufacturing or commercial data would be beneficial.
An understanding of pricing, costing, profit margins, sales analysis or financial reporting would be an advantage.
A degree, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Business Analysis, Finance or a related discipline would be beneficial.
Applications are welcomed from graduates and early-career candidates. Previous experience in a dedicated Data Analyst role is not essential for candidates who can demonstrate strong Excel skills, analytical ability and a genuine willingness to learn. Training will be provided on company-specific systems, products and commercial processes.
