Health and Safety Business Partner – REF 11961GW
£50,000–£54,000 + up to 15% bonus | Home based | Midlands focus
Principal People | Role Reference 11961
If you are an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys the relationship side of consultancy as much as the technical side, this role gives you the autonomy to manage your own portfolio, your own diary and your own client relationships without being measured by how many days you spend on the road.
Principal People are recruiting for a confidential Health and Safety Business Partner opportunity with an established consultancy business. The role is home based, with the majority of client activity across the Midlands and wider UK travel when required.
What is in it for you?
£50,000–£54,000 basic salary plus a bonus of up to 15%.
Genuine control over your diary. There is no fixed requirement to spend a set number of days visiting clients each week.
Home-based working, with travel driven by what your clients genuinely need rather than an arbitrary site-visit target.
Ownership of a varied portfolio of circa 100 clients across multiple sectors.
A genuine business partnering model. You will be expected to understand the wider client business, build trusted relationships and provide practical advice that goes beyond a checklist approach.
The opportunity to combine technical H&S expertise with relationship management and commercial influence.
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service, with the option to purchase additional leave.
4% employer pension contribution, 3x salary life assurance and a Health Cashback Plan.
Two paid volunteering days, employee discounts, discounted gym membership and cycle-to-work support.
50% contribution towards relevant professional membership fees and potential support towards professional qualifications.
What will you be doing?
Managing and developing long-term relationships across your own client portfolio.
Providing expert Health & Safety advice, helping clients manage risk, compliance challenges and complex H&S matters.
Understanding client operations and business objectives so that your recommendations are practical, proportionate and commercially realistic.
Supporting clients with H&S management systems, risk management and positive safety culture.
Working with clients through face-to-face meetings, Teams/video, telephone and digital channels.
Identifying where further services such as Fire Risk Assessments, training or additional consultancy could genuinely add value.
Supporting client retention, renewal and portfolio growth.
What are we looking for?
Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) is essential.
A relevant diploma-level H&S qualification, such as the NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ Diploma, NVQ Level 4/5/6 or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation, risk assessment and RIDDOR.
The confidence to advise clients on complex issues without needing to be a specialist in every individual technical discipline.
Strong client relationship, communication and influencing skills.
Commercial awareness and the ability to spot opportunities to add value within an existing client relationship.
The ability to organise your own workload and manage competing client priorities.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when client need requires it.
Location: Home based. Ideally within approximately 50 miles of Leicester. Most client activity will be across the Midlands, with UK-wide travel required occasionally.
Salary: £50,000–£54,000 + up to 15% bonus + benefits.
If you want a consultancy role where you are trusted to run your own portfolio and build proper client relationships rather than simply complete scheduled visits, apply or contact Principal People for a confidential conversation
